Version 2.3.0

LatestTechnical notesfor version 2.3.0 on GitHub

✨ New

See how all your automatic rules perform on one screen

For super admins · A new statistics screen, opened from the rules list, shows every message and badge rule at a glance: how often they were triggered, how many messages players actually read, and which active rules have never been triggered at all.

Below it, a list shows the latest rules triggered — who got which message or badge, and for which match — and can be narrowed to one rule, one kind of rule or one outcome.

See your win rate in 1v1, 2v2 and every other format

Your ranked profile now shows your win rate for each format you have played — 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, and uneven matches like 2v1 — with your wins and losses in each. No need to make the top five of the season statistics to know where you stand. It also appears on player pages.

  • See when a tournament starts and ends from its details

⚡ Improved

A smoother app, on a phone too

Every screen of the app has been rebuilt on new foundations. Things look the way they did, but menus, lists and dialogs now behave the same everywhere and fit a phone. The help bubbles next to statistics open with a tap, and choosing a custom match date offers a calendar.

For super admins: the administration now works on a phone too, and a menu lists every section, so moving from one to another no longer means going back to the dashboard.

One back button on phones, always in the same place

On a phone, every screen now goes back with the arrow next to the Skol logo at the top. It also takes you from a tournament’s participants, teams or badges back to the tournament, and while you record a match it steps back through the form before leaving it.

Updates no longer interrupt you

Opening the app no longer makes you wait for an optional update to download: it opens right away and installs the update in the background. Once the new version is in place, a small “Update installed” message shows at the top.

The full-screen update message is kept for the rare updates you have to install before carrying on.

  • Championship standings now look like ranked leaderboards

🐛 Fixed

The live ranking now counts matches awaiting validation in placement progress

For players · In the “Provisional (Live)” view of a ranked season, a match not yet validated already moved your MMR and your recent form, but not your placement progress: you could stay “3/5 placement matches” after playing your fourth. It now counts, and finishing your placements with such a match places you in the live ranking straight away.

Swiping the standings no longer switches to an empty provisional table

On a phone, in a championship where results do not need confirming, a swipe on the standings used to switch to a provisional table that does not exist there. The standings now stay put.

The app no longer stays stuck on its loading screen

Going back to a Skol Arena page after an update could leave the pulsing logo on screen forever. The app now always opens a version that matches what is installed, and if it still cannot start, it reloads by itself.

  • Profile pictures now show in tournament brackets
  • Some error messages showed a technical code instead of a sentence

Version 2.2.0

Technical notesfor version 2.2.0 on GitHub

✨ New

Fix a result you just entered, without cancelling the match

For players · Picked the wrong winner or typed the wrong score? If your result was approved straight away, you can now correct it from the match page for 48 hours, or for up to a week while an opponent disputes it. The line-up and the date stay as they were played: only the result changes.

The other players of the match get a notification, and the match discussion shows the old and the new result. In ranked seasons, ranking points are worked out again, and players who had already seen their points for that match see a “result corrected” line in their next summary.

Organisers can correct or cancel any approved match

For tournament admins · Organisers can now correct the result of any approved match in their championship or ranked season, or cancel it, at any time. Use it to settle a disputed result. The players of the match are told, and rankings and ranking points are worked out again.

🐛 Fixed

Badges show the date you earned them

For players · A badge used to show the day it was handed out, which could be long after the match that earned it: when a result was entered days later, or when a new badge was given to everyone who had already earned it in a past season. Every badge, including the ones you already have, now shows the date of the match that earned it.

A cancelled match no longer counts in your ranking points summary

For players · When one of your ranked matches was cancelled before you had seen its result, the points summary still showed it as a match you had played, with its points won or lost. It is now left out, and the summary only shows the matches that really count.

Version 2.1.0

Technical notesfor version 2.1.0 on GitHub

✨ New

Player photos

Add a photo to your profile from the settings: crop it and it shows next to your name across the app instead of your initials. Super admins, and owners of an organisation you belong to, can remove a photo that is not appropriate.

Let the app build the teams

When entering a match, split the players into two teams in one tap: at random, or, in ranked, as evenly as possible based on everyone’s rating. Tap again for another line-up; when the current one is already the most balanced, the app says so.

Icons for billiards, table football, darts and more

For super admins · The icon picker now offers icons made for your disciplines: billiards, table football, darts, table tennis, pétanque, bowling, chess, cards, racket sports, video games and more. Search them in English or French (“babyfoot”, “fléchettes”…). They work for disciplines, ranked tiers and badges, and every icon you already chose stays as it is.

Maintenance screen

For super admins and self-hosters · See your instance at a glance: app and database versions, database size, applied updates and the configuration in use (secrets only show whether they are set). When you change where player photos are stored, the same screen moves the existing photos to the new place.

Seasons that end on their own

For super admins · A ranked season can close by itself on its end date, or roll straight into the next one: the new season keeps the same settings, and every player is registered again so matches can start right away. New seasons are numbered from the ones actually played.

What’s new: see what changed in each version

A new “What’s new” entry in the menu under your avatar opens the list of changes, version by version, written for players and organisers. A small dot on your avatar tells you when there is something you have not read yet; it disappears once you open the list.

⚡ Improved

  • Match dates fit on small phones

Search ignores accents

Typing “eloise” finds “Éloïse” wherever you look for a player: match entry, team picker, match filters, player comparison and the user list.

Self-hosters: the player comparison and the user list search on the server, which needs the PostgreSQL unaccent extension. Without it, those two searches still ignore upper and lower case but not accents. Match entry, the team picker and the match filters search in the app itself and ignore accents in every case. See how to enable unaccent.

Server logs are now easy to read by default

For self-hosters · The server now writes its logs as plain, readable lines instead of JSON, so docker logs is easy to follow. If a log collector reads your logs, set LOG_FORMAT to json or logfmt to keep the previous format.

🐛 Fixed

Ranked seasons and game rules are managed by super admins only

Moving a tournament to another organisation is also reserved to super admins, matching what the admin screens already showed.

Win rates agree everywhere

The same results now give the same win rate on profiles, head-to-heads, partners and tournament statistics: wins divided by matches played, with a tie counted as a draw only where the competition allows draws.

A single-use invitation code works only once

Signing up with an organisation’s code also adds you to that organisation.

Organisation competitions stay private everywhere

Players outside an organisation can no longer see its ranked seasons, nor count its competitions in a player’s statistics, comparison or badges.

Descriptions and notifications are better protected

Formatted descriptions are cleaned before being displayed, and notifications can only be delivered to genuine browser notification services.

Match results always go through validation

A result entered by someone outside the match needs both sides to confirm it, a scheduled match earns no points until a result is in, and you can no longer cancel a result entered by your opponent or a bracket match.

Team changes stay within their tournament

For tournament admins · Joining, leaving or deleting a team only works on teams of the tournament you manage, and a team can no longer be overfilled when several players join at once.

Trust is taken back when a result is withdrawn or disputed

Cancelling a result you validated yourself, or having a validated result disputed, removes the trust it earned you.

🐛 Fixed

Sign-in is protected against repeated attempts

After too many attempts, sign-in pauses for a moment and tells you how long to wait, in your language.

Private competitions stay private

Competitions attached to an organisation are hidden from non-members everywhere: matches, teams, live updates.

Correct client addresses behind a proxy

For self-hosters · Declare your reverse proxies with TRUSTED_PROXY_HOPS so limits and logs see the real visitor. ENABLE_EMAIL_PASSWORD is renamed SHOW_EMAIL_PASSWORD_FORM.

A discussion thread on every match, season badges, and fairer team ratings.

✨ New

Talk it out on the match page

Each match has a discussion thread. When a result is contested, both sides can explain and settle it themselves, and every step of the match is recorded there. Tournament admins are asked to step in only when a dispute is escalated.

Expected result before the match

In ranked, see how balanced a line-up is before entering the result.

Career peak

Your statistics show your best rating across every season, not just the current one.

Rule statistics

For super admins · See how often each badge or message rule fires and what became of it.

Rules based on how a match ended

For super admins · Award a badge or show a message for a win by forfeit, for example.

Archive games and outcomes

For super admins · Retire a game or an outcome without losing the meaning of past results. Deletion stays possible only for what was never played.

Apply game changes to running competitions

For super admins · A banner lists the running competitions that still use the old settings of a game, and lets you update them one by one.

API reference

For self-hosters · Each instance can serve a browsable reference of its API at /api/docs, turned on with API_DOCS_ENABLED.

Configurable ranked reporting window

For self-hosters · RANKED_MATCH_MAX_AGE_HOURS sets how long players have to enter a ranked match after playing it (48 hours by default).

  • For super admins · Choose whether an outcome counts in ranked

⚡ Improved

A rebuilt match page

The winner is highlighted as soon as a result exists, and who has confirmed is shown next to each name.

Badges can be won every season

Badges are now season trophies: win them again next season. A badge can still be made a one-off.

Fairer team ratings

In team matches, the rating change is shared between teammates. Ratings of ongoing seasons were recalculated once.

Fix a competition after it started

For tournament admins · Names, descriptions and dates stay editable all along. Score settings can be changed until the first result, and a new points scale recalculates what was already awarded.

Finished competitions keep their rules

Changing a game no longer rewrites the results of competitions already played under it.

Clear all your notifications in one go

The list loads as you scroll, and old read notifications are removed after 90 days.

Ranking cards explain their order

Best teams and players show avatars, links and a bar reflecting how the ranking is computed.

Pages show their layout while loading

A background refresh is signalled instead of swapping the figures under your eyes.

Reworked rating animation

The progress bar fills tier by tier during a promotion, and Escape closes the card.

A new look

Skol Arena has a new logo and colours.

Rule priority explained

For super admins · Priority is hidden where it does nothing, and team rules can target the whole winning or losing side.

Contesting a validated match happens in the thread

Agreeing again withdraws your contest, and tournament admins are notified.

  • The match form shows how much each outcome weighs in ranked
  • Season dates match when the season really started and ended

🐛 Fixed

  • For tournament admins · Requests to step in disappear once the dispute is settled
  • A competition can no longer go back to an earlier status
  • For super admins · A season can be renamed after it started
  • Only super admins can change games and outcomes
  • Correcting only the outcome of a match keeps its score
  • Your new name appears in the header right after a rename
  • English pages no longer show French leftovers
  • The page no longer jumps sideways when switching tabs on a computer
  • For super admins · Badge and message rules match text reliably
  • The ranked profile tab only shows to players taking part
  • For self-hosters · A fresh install starts from an empty database

The end-of-season Rewind arrives, along with a new home page.

✨ New

Season Rewind

When a ranked season ends, every player gets a story-style recap of their season: best moments, rivals, streaks and final rank. It is promoted on the home page for two weeks and stays available from your menu.

A home page built around you

The competitions you play in come first, then the ones you could join, with past events tucked away. A competition finished less than a week ago stays up front.

Peak and average leaderboards

A finished season can also be ranked by highest and average rating.

Carry ratings into a new season

For super admins · Start a season from the ratings of a previous one, softened towards the average by a factor you choose. Players stay off the leaderboard until they play their first match.

⚡ Improved

Fair podiums

Tied players share the same rank instead of being split arbitrarily, and a tie is never cut in half.

One switcher for leaderboard views

Swipe between leaderboard views on a phone, or pick them from a sidebar on a computer. The view you chose stays in the address.

Flip one outcome card at a time

Each outcome card has its own button to switch between winners and losers.

Last activity instead of last login

For super admins · The user list shows when each player last used the app.

🐛 Fixed

You stay signed in as long as you keep using the app

Active players were signed out about 30 days after signing in.

  • Signing out no longer bounces you back into the app
  • The statistics tab you were on is kept when you come back
  • Top 3 lists no longer show a fourth player after a tie

✨ New

Know which version you are on

After an update, the app tells you the version you just got.

⚡ Improved

Only important updates block the app

Most updates install quietly and apply on the next page change. Only updates that cannot wait ask you to update right away.

🐛 Fixed

  • Ratings and statistics are up to date when you come back to a tournament
  • Weekly climbers and drops update after each validated match
  • Rank progress bars stay correct after a tier is deleted
  • Leaving a page no longer shows error messages
  • Clearing the comparison filters clears the results

✨ New

User management

For super admins · A screen lists every account with its activity: sign-up, last login, matches and tournaments. Edit an account, reset its password, manage its organisations, deactivate, archive or delete it. Archiving removes the account but keeps its match history; a returning player can get it back.

Peak rating and weekly progress

Ranked profiles show your best rating and this week’s gain, and tournament statistics list the week’s biggest climbers and drops.

Filter the rating chart

Show only the last 25, 50 or 100 matches.

Create a password for a company account

Players who signed up with a company account can add a password from the settings.

⚡ Improved

Fairer rankings in statistics

Best partners, nemeses and outcome leaders take the number of matches into account, so one lucky win no longer tops the list. Each outcome shows both the most frequent and the most efficient players.

Clearer outcome breakdown

How often an outcome happens and who wins it are shown separately.

Shorter streak lists

Streak cards show the top 3, with a button to see more.

  • Sign-in errors are translated

🐛 Fixed

🐛 Fixed

  • Invitation codes can be deactivated
  • For super admins · Editing a rule can no longer make it inconsistent

One warning with a retry countdown, instead of several confusing errors.

Notifications describe uneven matches correctly

Contest a result after it was validated

For 7 days after a match is validated, a participant can still contest it. Whoever entered a result can cancel it within 48 hours.

How ranked ratings work

A card in the tournament information explains the starting rating, placement matches and how much a match is worth.

Tune ranked ratings per game

For super admins · Make an outcome weigh more or less on ratings, and say how teammates interact in a game (playing together, side by side, or sharing resources) so ratings are shared accordingly.

Best partner and nemesis

Player profiles have been redesigned and show who you win most with and who beats you most.

Encouragement after a ranked match

The rating animation comes with a short message matching how the match went.

⚡ Improved

Championships with live standings

Create a championship, register players and let them enter their own matches. Standings update with every result, and a provisional view shows where everyone would stand once pending results are confirmed.

Enter a match step by step

A guided form walks you through the players, the teams, the score and the date, with a layout designed for phones.

Results confirmed by the other side

A result entered by one side waits for the other to confirm it. If you disagree, contest it with a reason and the score you think is right. A result nobody answers is validated automatically after 72 hours.

Games and the ways a match can end

For super admins · Super admins describe each game played (a discipline), with instructions on how to enter the score and the possible outcomes, such as a regular win or a forfeit.

Game rules

For tournament admins · Write the rules of a game once and attach them to your competitions.

Player profiles and statistics

Every player has a profile with their results and statistics, and can edit their own details.

Notifications

Get notified when a match involving you is entered, confirmed or contested.

Invite-only sign-up

New players join with an invitation code. Instances connected to Keycloak can also sign in with a company account, and forgotten passwords can be reset by email.

Install it like an app

A banner offers to install Skol Arena on your phone or computer, straight from the browser.

Ready to self-host

For self-hosters · Skol Arena ships as a Docker image. The database is set up automatically at start-up, and the first super admin account is created for you.
